Route

Thursday 30th June

Drive from Austria to Hungary today after thundering and lightning (+ rain) last night.  Rain storms coming down - stopped at Tesco (after ALDI a couple of days ago) so it feels like home!!  Had to put up tents in the rain this evening, but at least this camp site has free broadband.  Expect to look over Budapest tomorrow as we are staying here 2 nights.  I think the bar will do very well tonight.

Week 1 (up to Saltzburg)

Saturday 25th June
Met some of the group at The Swan in Hammersmith (4 couples).  Cannot wait until we actually get started.  Most of them do not have any experience in Overland tours.
Sunday 26th June
Left at 7:30 to Dover.  Ferry at 12:20.  France, Belgium via Brussels.  Overnight Bush camp in Ardennes forest.
Monday 27th June

Left first bush camp at 7:00.  Travelled all day out of Belgium though Luxemburg and Germany.  Lunch at a Motorway Service Station.  Second night at a country bush camp arrived approx. 6:00 not far from Dachau.

Tuesday 28th June
Left bush camp at 7:00.  Arrived Dackau at 9:00.  2 hr visit – very moving – lots of school parties.  Afternoon drive to Saltzburg.  Camp site with showers (hot)!!  Very pretty journey – lots of hop fields and Alpine scenery.
Wednesday 29th June.
Late breakfast at camp site then rest of day spent in Salsburg (morning at castle).  Really hot.  Moving on to Budapest tomorrow.

Just a few days to go!!

Passport returned with Visa’s – all vaccinations complete – tent and sleeping bag tested (in the garden in good weather) - some cash and currency to sort out tomorrow, then just a couple of things to add to the growing list of things to fit into my rucksack.  Met up with Linda and Norman from Rugby who are also going on this adventure.

First couple of nights will be bush camping in France and Germany before we get to Austria.
