Moving on towards Tibet (part 2)

Friday 9th September

We continued on our drive towards Lhasa which is approx. 3600 km from Kashgor – over the last 2 days we have done over 1200 km, but with some distractions and with generally good roads (motorway standard most of the way so far).

We left our bush camp in the Takalmakan Desert continuing along the Tarin Basin at 08:00 scrapping the door when leaving (Will was not amused). At 10:00 we stopped to change a front wheel which had been punctured. We also took the opportunity to dispose of our rubbish bag together with 3 blue folding chairs (mine, Norman’s and Sarah’s) which we bought at a Tesco somewhere in Europe weeks ago. We continued through the desert and the occasional irrigated fertile agricultural area a few small towns and a couple of cities. We diverted off the motorway to get lunch (noodles for the second day running) in a small town and to stock up on bottled drinks etc. During the day we went through a number of toll stations as well as one lengthy police check.

We found a way off the motorway down a track and set up our second consecutive bush camp in the desert.
