Drove to Goreme today (14th July) with 3 stops. The Turkish scenery is extremely amazing and very varied. Some of the drive today was through semi -arid conditions interspersed with Mountains and lakes. First stop was at a series of caves (some religious) (similar to Petra) near Ihlara Valley. Some minor elbow and leg scrapes in scrambling up to and down from the caves. Views very impressive.
Next onto the Ihlara valley where we had lunch band an hour and a half walk along the River valley. Very pretty scenery. Interesting frescoes in of the Church along the river valley.
Finally went visited the underground city at Derinkuyu – lots of steps and low passages – no good photos. Very cool inside compared with the hot weather on the surface.
We got to our campsite for 3 nights around 18:00 – the site has got good facilities (inc. a swimming pool), broadband, showers, bar and washing facilities.
After the supper Megan started truck cluedo, this could go on for some time.
Tomorrow I am going up in the hot air balloon – we leave at 04:50 and should be back for breakfast at 07:30 before we have a tour of Goreme by Will.
