Our overnight bush camp was only a few hundred yards from the entrance to Sumela Monastery so we arrived before it opened.
About half of us took the 20 min steep walk up to the monastery while the other took a mini bus. The ticket office was as chaotic as all the others had been – each ticket was dispensed manually and took ages. Historical site ticket offices are not one of Turkey’s strong points, everyone has been the same! The truck was again the centre of attraction with Turkish tourists.
We then travelled out to the Black Sea coast visiting LakeUzungol on the way. Could not find a suitable place for a bush camp, so we carried on travelling for another couple of hours finally breaking bush camp in a small disused quarry at the side of the road (difficult on the tent pegs). This comes complete with a small pond with a colony of frogs so those near the pond it could be a noisy night!
Truck Cluedo update. At our lunch stop in Trabzon there was a simultaneous double killing - I killed John (Bag in Ba g Area) and he killed me (camera (in the bag) at a rest stop. At the stop at the lake Gary killed Lu with toilet paper near a toilet. As Gary now has to kill himself the existing players are now redrawing their victim names. Watch this space.
