Route

Friday 22nd July

We made the short trip to Gori in the morning and explored the town.  The towns here do not wake up until at least 10:00 and then they become quite busy, but before then they are dead and depressing.  When the shops they are full and full of a variety of goods – it is also much cheaper here than in Turkey.

We explored the shops, the Castle and the Stalin Museum – which unfortunately did not have explanations in English.

We were then going to see some more caves nearby, but could not find the right road, so we continued to Mtksheta where we set up bush camp in mid afternoon.  Will set up the solar shower tent for the first time after Lily did a running repair to the top.  We camped not far from the river in a wooded area, so most of us either used the shower or the river to cool off, wash ourselves and wash some of our clothes.

The countryside (and the cities and towns) are dotted with empty old abandoned industrial buildings as they have closed down – you see them especially in Romania, Bulgaria and here in Georgia.

Keeping fit.  We are all walking and climbing a lot in this holiday plus the truck is bouncing us along at times on some of the roads just to keep our stomach muscles in trim!!  Will has brought some fitness equipment with him on the truck and Glyn and he regularly have evening keep fit sessions.
