Wednesday 13th July

The first minor tent problem arose today Rakhee’s tent developed a small hole (she fixed it with Gaffa Tape) and also the valve on her mattress failed, but no major problem so far.   2 other tents have now developed minor problems (pole breaks).  Today was a major drive day, so most of us caught up on some sleep along the way.  Mosquitoes seem to have been busy overnight at the camp site so we are all suffering to some extent.

Today we left the camp site at 07:00 to start the journey to Goreme.  The first stop was to a now closed Tesco Kapa supermarket, so we had a quick look around the other shops before we continued to Pamukkale.  This is a truly amazing Roman site at the top of the hill with a major town and with highly concentrated calcium hydro carbonate reacting with the oxygen in the air to form the calcium carbonate travertines.  We walked down the length of the travertines (no shoes) before rejoining the truck at the bottom.  Spent 2 hrs here but could have spent much more time here as the Roman site was very extensive and I only managed to cover a fraction of it and the landscape was out of this world.

Late afternoon stop at a Tesco Kapa Extra store for lunch and to pick up provisions.  Amazing views while travelling West and then stopped at a bush camp for the night.

On cook duty this evening – really quick supper (full Tuna salad with Pasta) so nothing too difficult (mainly chopping, mixing and washing up afterwards. Due to the late lunch stop we had plenty of food to spare.   Lovely sunset in the middle of no where.  As I was on cook duty I spent the night on the truck and didn’t have to put up my tent.
