Moving on towards Tibet (part 4)

Sunday 11th September

Another long drive day despite the fact we only did 315 km. This was due to traffic congestion in the road works. We left the bush camp at 08:00then hit the traffic delays at 10:15. After by passing the main queue for a short distance we didn’t get clear of the roadworks until just after midday.
We stopped for lunch late and could only find a couple of transport cafes next to some small industrial units after we could not get into the town. However the noodles were very good (I missed out on this and gave the noodles a miss).

The roads today were much worse than in the previous 3 days and this also slowed our progress. The traffic was dominated by very large lorries carrying everything from 20+ cars to wind turbines. There were several lorries carrying live pigs (too many were crammed in and in very poor conditions). When we were on the cross desert road to Dunhuang we saw another huge wind farm on the right hand side in the far distance. More of the turbines were moving than the last one we saw, but this farm went on for miles and miles.

We then stopped in Dunhuang to stock up before making bush camp just outside the city again in the desert. We are `moving towards Golmund tomorrow.
