Saigon 18th October

First welcome back John and Peggy - they actually got back yesterday, but I forgot to mention it yesterday.  They spent some time in Hanoi and John has kept up with the Truck habit of shaving off his beard!! - thats 3 gone so far and only 1 has returned.

Today Eamon and I went on a full day trip to the Cao Dai Temple in the morning and then after lunch we went to the Cu Chi Tunnels.  We were lucky enough to see part of a service at the Cao Dai Temple (one of 4 a day, every day).  This is the main Church of a relatively new religion which is supposed to combine elements of all tyhe major religions, although it was difficult to see the Christian elements.  Not much explanation as to what was going on, but very impressive buildings and icons etc.

The tunnels which were built by the Vietcon over 25 years of war against the French and USA from the late 50's to mid 70's.  Thre were a lot of exhibits of the savage way death occured to the aggressive troops and the real tunnels were quite small to accomodate the Vietnam smaller frame bodies.
